Elected as a Democrat to represent Wisconsin's 2nd District in the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses, he served from 1851 to 1855. The son of a Maine politician, he studied law privately there and in New York, and was admitted to the bar in 1838. That year he moved to the Wisconsin Territory, settling as an attorney in Platteville, Grant County. He was an early booster for Wisconsin statehood. Prior to his election to the US House Eastman was secretary of the Territorial Legislative Council (1843 to 1846) and District Attorney for Grant County. He declined to seek a third Congressional term and returned to Platteville, where he died at 43. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
