From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Sunday, December 31, 1939, p. 4:

Mrs. Emma Scott Speer, 95, whose first husband, John Lyle Scott, was a Confederate veteran, died at the home of her daughter, 4123 Avenue G, at 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

In excellent health throughout her life, Mrs. Speer suffered a stroke two weeks ago. She lived in Fort Worth 44 years. Her second husband also is deceased.

Survivors include two sons, Sam Speer, Fort Worth, and Archie Scott, Canada; five daughters, Mrs. Florence Ford, Altus, Okla.; Mrs. Fred Grounds, El Paso; Mrs. Mary Fitzhugh, Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Nina Pearson, Long Island, N.Y., and Mrs. W. F. Shurtluff, Fort Worth, and 15 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Chapel, Rev. Fletcher Isbell officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
