Golfer. Ouimet is considered to be one of the earlier greats of the game of golf. In 1913 Ouimet won the U.S. Open championship by outshooting Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. Ouimet went on to win the U.S. Amateur championship in 1914 and again in 1931. In 1951 Ouimet was given the honor as the first non-Briton to ever be named Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland, where the game of golf was first created.
