ALBERT, Laurina (Coulombe)

Laurina (Coulombe) Albert, 70, wife of the late Roy Albert, has entered into eternal rest at home on Wednesday, (October 2, 2002) surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fort Kent, ME on Jan. 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Sadie (Marquis) Coulombe. She was a graduate of the three-year program at the Madawaska Training School, now the University of Maine at Fort Kent. After attending summer sessions and continuing education courses, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree. Laurina was a professional educator, who taught in Madawaska, St. Francis and Sinclair. During her 38 year tenure, she was a literacy volunteer, taught adult education, and was assistant principal for 12 years. Upon retiring from Patrick Theriault Elementary School in 1989, her love of teaching found her back in the classroom in Florida and more recently at Wallagrass Elementary, serving as a substitute teacher and assisting in evaluating student teachers. Laurina enjoyed people and willingly served her profession through various organizations. She was a member of the Maine State Employees' bargaining team, negotiating salaries for the state teachers and related classifications. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, serving two terms as president. She actively served on the St. Joseph Parish Council in Sinclair and taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes for many years. Indeed, the world has been a better place because Laurina was a teacher and she was important in the life of each child she taught. Her love for life was reflected in her commitment to her family. She thought the world of her sons and grandchildren, proud of their talents, achievements, and creativity. She shared her strong faith and beliefs and while steadfast in her convictions, she gave of herself to family and friends as well as to her profession. Family, friends and colleagues appreciated her words of wisdom and her philosophy of life, ``love your family, be compassionate, and always think positive.'' She enjoyed traveling and entertaining family and friends, especially at her summer home by the lake. Laurina is survived by two sons, Brian and his wife Micheline of Fort Kent, ME, and Ken and his wife Marie of Hampden, ME; her three grandchildren, Randy, Kendra and Dana Albert. She is survived by her brothers, Clayton and his wife Bobby, Allen and his wife Ronette, all of Fort Kent, ME; her sisters, Rena Rioux of Plainville, Claudette and her husband Phil of Southington, Henrietta and her husband Ray of Somers; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Roy, she was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Judith. Friends may call at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent, ME, TODAY, 7-9 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. until the time of the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by Fr. Claude Gendreau and Fr. James Albert, 11 a.m., Saturday, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent, ME. Committal services will follow at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in St. Francis. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to St. Joseph Church in Sinclair or to the American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04088-1246. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
