Reporter and son of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst Jr. Hearst began his newspaper career as a police reporter and then he went onto cover stories throughout World War II from Europe. In 1956 Hearst co-shared the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting and spent four decades as editor in chief of the Hearst newspaper chain. Hearst also wrote a Sunday editorial for 40 years. Hearst always said he lived in his father's shadow, but he seemed to share his view on politics and he himself was an anti-communist.
