Broadcast Journalist. He was a News Correspondent for ABC News during the 1960s. In 1962 Scali began to cover the Cuban missile crisis. That same year Scali was asked by the Soviet Chief of Intelligence to the United States to act as an unofficial intermediary between the Soviet Union and the White House. He wanted Scali to help to prevent the missile crisis from turning into a nuclear war. In 1963 President John F. Kennedy asked Scali not to disclose any information or his role in the negotiations. In 1973 Scali became the United States Ambassador to The United Nations.
