He was a short stop, making his debut with the Cincinnati Reds on September 9, 1936. For fourteen seasons, he played with the Cincinnati Reds (1936-37, 1943-47), Boston Braves (1939-42), Philadelphia Philles (1948-49) and St. Louis Cardinals in 1950. In 1940, he was the highest paid player on the Boston Braves' roster at $15,000 and was an All-Star (1940-41, 1943). He finished his career with a record of 539 runs scored, 1270 hits, 97 home runs, 640 runs batted in, a .238 batting average and a .972 fielding percentage. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
