Kathy Ann Snoozy, age 15, and a friend Deborah Furlong, 14, were murdered while having a picnic on top of a wooded knoll, in a section of Alameda Valley, not too far from their San Jose neighborhood.
When the girls failed to come home for dinner, the father of one of the girl went to look for them and found them surrounded by police and gawkers. Both were dead. Stabbed over 300 times, the crimes shook citizens of San Jose.
It was only two years later, after the killer struck again that San Jose Police, had enough leads to make an arrest. Sadly it took another murder for the arrest to happen. On April 11, 1971, Kathy Bialik chose the same location as Kathy and Deborah had chosen for their picnic 2 years before. Kathy Bialik there to birdwatch was killed by the same murderer. She too was brutally stabbed to death. This third murder led to leads who made the arrest possible, 2 weeks after the Kathy Bialik's brutal murder.
The accused was Karl Werner, he had attended the same school as Kathy Snoozy and Deborah Furlong. He was sentenced and is now serving three life sentences for the murders of Kathy Snoozy, Deborah Furlong and Kathy Bialik. At the time of the murders California did not have the death penalty.
