Death: Dec. 27, 1918

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Civil War in the 62nd New York Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in as a Private and Musician in Company H on June 30, 1861 in New York City, New York. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery as the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia on May 5, 1864. His citation reads "Went out in front of the line under a fierce fire and, in the face of the rapidly advancing enemy, rescued the regimental flag with which the color bearer had fallen". He was honorably mustered out on June 30, 1864 when his enlistment expired, and his Medal was awarded to him on forty-one years later on February 25, 1895. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
