US Congressman. Served in the United States Army during World War II, and was wounded on November 30, 1944 in the brutal fighting in Germany's Hurtgen Forest. Served until 1947, retiring with rank of Captain. For his services he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Elected to represent two different Alabama Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1967 until his death in office in 1988. First represented the 4th District from 1967 to 1973, then the 3rd District from 1973 to 1988. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
