Ethel Herbert Fears graduated from Valparaiso University with a pharmacy degree. After graduation he married Jeanetta Agnes Daw on June 21, 1908. She had just gotten her teachers degree at Valparaiso University.
He worked at various pharmacies including on (or next to) the Nez Piece Reservation in a pharmacy or trading post. According to Jeanetta, they both became acquainted with Chief Joseph.
In Sep 1918 (WW I Draft Registration) he listed his occupation as Mail Carrier.
Later he changed his career to become a Forest Ranger and worked at Hornet Creek, ID. Listed as such on Jan 1920 US Fed Census.
He and his family eventually settled in Oroville, WA. In 1930 US Fed Census, he and his son, Robert, were hauling wood for a lumber company. In 1940 he was listed again as hauling wood.
They had four children: Robert William, Donald Norman (1910-1910), Kathryn Joycie & Ethel Elaine.
