His most famous works are the comedies 'An Italian Straw Hat' (1851), (filmed by Rene Clair, and for which Jacques Ibert wrote incidental music), and 'La Cagnotte' (1864). Later became the Mayor of the town of Souvigny-en-sologne, where he had retired.
