Obituary and Death Notice
Aberdeen American News (SD) - May 9, 2003

Arvada, Colo. --- Funeral services for Henry "Sy" Tisdall age 89 of Arvada, Colo., and formerly of Selby and Mobridge, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Selby. Rev. Deb Larson officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. under the direction of Larson's Funeral Home in Mobridge.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Larson's Memorial Chapel in Selby and also for one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Mr. Tisdall passed away May 4, 2003 in Arvada, Colo.

Henry Tisdall was born on August 12, 1913, on a farm four miles west of Selby, S.D., to Jacob and Inger (Mathison) Tisdall. He grew up on this same farm and attended rural school through the 8th grade. Henry then attended Selby High School, graduating in 1931. During the Depression years, Sy was in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on different projects in western South Dakota. On February 4, 1938, Henry married Viola Green at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Timber Lake. Following their marriage they made their home in Mobridge for four years before moving to Selby, where he farmed with his father and worked for a line construction firm building distribution and transmission facilities. In 1952 he became a lineman for Cam Wal Electric in Selby. Sy worked for Cam Wal until his retirement in 1976.

Sy moved to Mobridge in 1989, where he lived until moving to Colorado, where he was a resident of the Exempla Colorado Lutheran Home in Arvada, Colo., at the time of his death.

Henry was a member of the Selby United Methodist Church, the Mobridge Moose Lodge and the Selby Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by two sons, Bob (Virginia) Tisdall of Plainfield, Ill., Don (Joyce) Tisdall of Castle Rock, Colo.; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Sieck of Selby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Viola in 1982, two brothers, Ted and John, and sister, Tillie Van Orman.

The organist will be Sharon Wolff. The soloist will be Viola Lemburg and she will be singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Softly and Tenderly." The congregation will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand."

The congregation will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" #504 and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" #474.

Casketbearers will be Jack Tisdall, Chuck Birkholt, Rick Godkin, Darrell Sieck, Pat O'Toole, Dick Pudwill.
