Obituary:
"Wade Koontz Dies of Heart Attack
Wade Koontz, pioneer Big Timber resident, died of a heart attack on his ranch on the Boulder early Monday morning. Mr. Koontz, who had been in poor health for several years, left his home about 5 o'clock in the morning to look for some cattle. When he didn't return at noon a search was started and he was found a couple hours later.
Funeral services were held from the Lowry Funeral Home this afternoon, Rev. E. Brentwood Barker officiating. Music was by Mrs. Chas. Nicholson and Mrs. A. Ronald McDonnell, accompanied by Mrs. Mervin Sell at the organ.
Pallbearers were Howard Forsythe, Oscar Forsythe, Wright Ewan, Robert Cosgriff, Karl Bryan and Stuart Nicholson. Burial was in Mountain View.
Mr. Koontz was born February 20, 1875, at Eldorado, Kans., and was married to Dolly Hearn on April 6, 1904, at Goodrich, Kans. They came to Big Timber in 1907 and Mr. Koontz's first job was hauling blocks for construction of the Big Timber Lutheran church.
They returned to Kansas in December of that year but returned here the following August, residing on the Baker ranch on the Boulder for several months before moving to the present Herman Utermohle place near Grey Cliff. They moved to their present home on the Boulder just above the Natural Bridge in 1921.
A daughter, born to them in June 1906, passed away in December of the same year.
Besides his widow, Mr. Koontz is survived by a brother, Harry Koontz of Los Angeles, and several nephews and nieces, including Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Koontz of Dickinson, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Dale Koontz of Mountain City, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Koontz of Kansas City and Don Koontz of Parker, Kans., all here for the funeral."
