Daughter of Dr. Humphrey Peake and his wife, Ann Linton Lane; born in Virginia, came as young woman to Palmyra, Missouri with her family, moved to Hannibal, Missouri with her family after her mother's death. Married Edward Charles McDonald on March 10, 1842. He was the first attorney in Hannibal, and they lived in the first brick house in Hannibal, known as "Oak Hill". She was the sister of Cornelia Peake McDonald, who married Edward's brother, Angus W. McDonald. Cornelia wrote a Civil War era diary that is still in print. Susan lived in Hannibal until after her husband's death as a casualty of the Civil War and moved to St. Louis to live with her children. Is buried next to her daughter Ellen Linton McDonald Coakley and Ellen's husband, James Coakley.
