Charles R. Hawkins, beloved husband, father and grandpa, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a battle with cancer. He was 68 years of age.
Born Aug. 11, 1942, in Jefferson County to the late James Richard and Myrtie Bell Sego Hawkins. Preceded in death by his son Michael D. Hawkins and a sister, Alma Pierson.
Formerly of Hardin County, he was a member of Pole Bridge Baptist Church, a 35-year member of the Stephensburg Masonic Lodge #212 and a member of the Eastern Star Prytle Chapter #449.
As a Masonic member he was active in his work for the Boys and Girls Club Charities.
He was retired from Phillip Morris Tobacco Co., where he was a maintenance supervisor who traveled the world training mechanics.
He was an avid fisherman, loved racing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Daugherty Hawkins of Georgetown; three sons, Timothy Alan (Sandy) Hawkins of Stamping Ground, Charles Scott (Shelley) Hawkins and James Adam (Christy) Hawkins, both of Georgetown; three sisters, Delma Jean Yates of Louisville, Nora House of Manchester, and Lois Moser of Prospect; two brothers, James Hawkins of New Albany, Ind., and Hubert Hawkins of Stanford, and 12 grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday
