The body of Pfc. Galand V. Funk, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Galand V. Funk, 224 Alden Road, will arrive in Muncie Monday at 7:26 p.m., and graveside services will be conducted in Elm Ridge Cemetery Tuesday at 10 a.m. by Father Edgar J. Cyr, pastor of St. Mary's Church. The cortege will leave Meeks Mortuary for the cemetery at 9:45 a.m.
Mr. Funk was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, December 24, 1944, while serving with the 75th Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action January, 1945, and news of his death was received April 25, 1945. He was 22 years of age.
Entering the u.S. Army may 29, 1943. Private Funk received his basic training at Camp Wolters, Tex., and then was transferred to the Air Corps, in which he received training at Keesler Field, Miss., and at the University of Florida. Transferring back to the infantry, he was given further training at Camp Shelby, Miss., and Camp Breckenridge, Ky. He went overseas in october, 1944, and was stationed in England and France before serving in Belgium.
A graduate of Central High School with the class of 1940, Pvt. Funk attended the University of Notre Dame from which he was graduated in 1943. While at Notre Dame he was a member of the Economics Round Table Club and the Debating Society.
