George was the son of John and Judah (Yeager) Thorn. Enlisted Co F, 15th WV Infantry on Sept 1, 1862. Wounded in the hand at Petersburg on April 2, 1865. Discharged June 14, 1865. Farmer in Barbour Co following discharge. Married Phebe Swick in 1868. Listed in Barbour Union veterans.
