Arthur Perry Atkins was the first child to be born to Dewitt Atkins 1860 – 1946 and Emaline Merrett 1857 – 1941. His known siblings were: Nola Atkins 1891; Luna Atkins 1892; Verden Atkins 1895; Loretta Atkins 1897.
On Aug. 3 1900, Perry married Sarah J "Sallie" Acuff. They had 3 known children: Herbert Lafayette Atkins 1904; Arilla Atkins 1913; and
Dillon Atkins 1915.
The 1910 census revealed that Perry owned his house and farm, but the property was mortgaged.
On Sept 12, 1918, Perry filled out the WWI draft registration card, revealing that his mailing address was RFD 1, Joppa, Grainger Co., Tennessee.
In 1930, Perry and the family were living in City of Knoxville, Tennessee, in a house that he rented for $45.00 a month on 109 East Magnolia Ave. He was working as a Foreman.
The 1931 Knoxville City Directory confirmed that Perry and Sallie were resident at East Magnolia Ave., and that he was the foreman at the Phoenix Utility Co.
Sept 10, 1932 was a very sad day. Peter's dear Sallie past away in Knoxville, Tennessee, Her body was taken home to be buried in the Sunrise Cemetery, where family and friends stood at the grave site to bid Sallie farewell.
On Nev.25 1932, Perry married again to Laura Harrell in Grainger Co. After the wedding they went to Knoxville where Peter maintained a home.
On June 12, 1934, death visited again. This time it claimed the life of Perry. His body too, was taken to the Sunrise Cemetery in Grainger Co., to be buried next to his beloved first wife, Sallie.
