Concha was my aunt (my favorite aunt), my father's youngest sister. She was Married to Marcial Arroyo and had two wonderful children, Jaime and Anita. Anita, though my cousin, is more like a sister to me. My aunt was the most down to earth, humble, loving, and caring person I've ever met. She adored her children and was very family oriented. She loved it when people came over to her house, her eyes would literally light up with happiness. She would give you the tightest hug ever.

She lived in the beautiful country side, surrounded by nature. She had all kinds of plants, and trees. Concha used to grow fruit bearing trees such as oranges, lemons, different types of grapefruit, mango, quenepas (a puertorican fruit), acerola (another puertorican fruit), avocados, pana, bananas, and so many other trees and vegetables; too many to mention here. To go to her house felt like going back to nature, a little paradise.

She was very loving and affectionate, always hugging and kissing us just because. She was a fantastic cook. Everything she made was tasty and healthy. She would, sometimes, cook outside, on a firewood type stove. That was used only for certain dishes that had to be cooked that way. She'd always say "this is the way our ancestors used to cook their meals long ago, and the food always tastes better this way." And I must say, she was absolutely correct. The taste achieved cooking food this way, cannot be duplicated on a regular stove. She was the only one in the family that kept the traditon. My dad used to love it when she cooked outside for us, he'd say; "this is how my grandmother and greatgrandmother used to cook, this feels at home." My dad loved his little sister very much and she loved him just as much too.

As nice and welcoming as she was, she had a temper. You just didn't want to see her angry. My cousins were always very mindful not to get her mad!!

She had been healthy all of her life but, aging, took its course. She developed a heart condition, which caused trips to the hospital to become quite frequent. One rainy day, she insisted she wanted to go visit a good friend of hers who was ill. She just took her umbrella and left. Inevitably she got wet. The next mornig she woke up with a bad cold and had to be taken to the hospital. She had developed pneumonia and due to her heart condition, things got complicated. About a week or so later she passed away. Her daughter misses her terribly. Even after my cousin got married, her mom never left her side, until her death. My cousin says she's still around, for she feels her presence all the time, and so do I.

She's missed by all who knew her. She was too precious, loving, and kind natured to be forgotten. She had a child like quality about her, for she was truly pure of heart!!
