|Birth: ||Jun. 20, 1917|
|Death: ||Apr. 2, 2008|
Bernice E. Brady, 90, ended her journey on earth peacefully on April 2, 2008 at her Village Oaks of Chandler residence.
She was an outgoing, friendly, compassionate lady who had a smile and helping hand for anyone who needed her. Her positive attitude and resiliency as a wife, mother, and grandmother served as an excellent role model for the family and friends that loved her and loved to spend time with her.
Bernice was born in Murphy, Idaho on June 20, 1917 as the youngest of three daughters of Albert and Victoria (Tori) Austin and graduated from Boise High School in 1935. She was born in Murphy, Idaho, but lived in the Chandler area for the last 50 years. She spent many of her years as a working mom working in restaurants as a cook and waitress. She opened her own restaurant at one time in her career and had an enormous following as a result of her homemade lunches, dinners, and pies. Later in her life, she also worked for a number of years as her husband's business partner and bookkeeper for his electrical contracting business. All of her children were extremely proud of her for being willing to learn the computer skills required for this task at her advanced age. During the past several years Bernice had more time for crafts and pursued her many hobbies. All of her children and grandchildren were fortunate to receive knitted blankets and ceramic items for the various holidays. Bernice was also a talented artist that had a natural gift for painting. She not only painted wonderful oil scenes but also painted items such as antique milk cans and wooden barrels with imaginative scenes. All of these items have become valuable and sentimental keepsakes to her children and grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sr., son Tom, and sister Edna Sloan. She is survived by her sister Mabel Vavrick of Butte, Montana, son James Estepp, daughter Sharon Akin, daughter Charlene Allison, son Harold Brady Jr., and son Gary Brady. Bernice also had 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Most of her immediate family resided in the Phoenix metro area except for her daughter Charlene and family who reside in Florida.
Visitation with family will be Monday April 7 at 10 am at the Cullumber Ward of the LDS Church, 220 E. Cullumber Ave, Gilbert. Services and a luncheon reception will follow beginning at 11 am.
