William D. was a butcher and farmer by trade, he and Maria raised six children of their own. After they retired they spent winters in Lincoln, Sacramento County, California, Maria died there on February 8, 1920. Maria and William are both buried in Hamilton Cemetery.

William remarried to Sarah E "Howard" Calder, she was born, 1861 in Streetsville, Peel County,Ontario, Canada. Her parents were George Howard and Eleanor Latham.
William and Sarah married March 17, 1926 in York County, Ontario.
