Gysbert (Gilbert) was born to Simon Westfall and Nelletje Quackenbosch and christened (C:) by the Kingston Dutch Church on October 16, 1698. He wed wed Annetje (Anna) Van Etten in about 1730. They lived in Rhinebeck Flatts Village, now Rhinebeck, New York and had ten known children, seven of whom were christened (C:) by the Rhinebeck Dutch Church (RDC):

On July 8, 1733, Gysbert was noted as a member of the Rhinebeck Flatts Reformed Church (changed to Rhinebeck Reformed in 1834). He was an active member as he served as a Deacon in 1732 and 1737 then as an Elder in 1740, 1745, and 1754. Gysbert left a Will dated May 22, 1759, which listed his wife and all ten children. He died shortly after as his wife was noted as a widow for a christening on October 21, 1759. As Gysbert was an active member of the church, it is believed he was buried there.
