Mary Elizabeth Kays Cavnar, 86, died Monday. March 28, 2011 in Louisville. She was born on April 19, 1924 in Franklin County, Kentucky, was a long-time resident of Denver, CO, and most recently had been residing in Shelbyville. Her passions were her family, the support of missions around the world, and service to her Lord and Savior through Christian education ministry. She was a graduate of John Hopkins University and received her Masters in Christian Education from Eastern Baptist Seminary, where she met her husband, LeRoy. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Denver, CO where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Women�s Missionary Fellowship. She had recently been attending the church of her youth, Shelbyville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Kays, Sr. and Cora Brooks Kays; and her husband, LeRoy B. Cavnar. She is survived by her son, Steve Cavnar (Donna) of Denver, CO; her daughters, Linda Youngs-Alley (Bob) of Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA, Gayle Barnett (Jon) of Parker, CO, and Leanne Pagliasotti (Bob) of Denver, CO; her sisters, Norma Barnett (Bill) of Harrodsburg, Barbara Coleman of Winchester, Dorothy �Dot� Hanna of Shelbyville, and Peggy Kays of Shelbyville; her brothers, Dr. Herbert Kays (Carolyn Sue) of Louisville and Donnie R. Kays (Carol Lee) of Prospect; and 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew and Bryan Youngs; Brad and Chad Barnett, Jason and Jenny Cavnar; and Darsana, Tony, Corrina, Angie, and Francesca Pagliasotti; and 12 great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelbyville First Baptist Church. Visitation: 12-1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
