Dr. Eugene Hesdorffer, age 89, died Friday March 25, 2011. His long life can be attributed to his true love for Gilda (Rones), his wife of 62 years, who enhanced his life in every sense.

The longtime resident of Jackson, MS graduated from Canton High School as an honor student in 1939 and from Tulane University Medical School in 1945. As 1st Lt. in the US Army during WWII, he served as the head of the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Dept. at Oliver General Hospital in Georgia. He did his residency in Ear, Nose and Throat at Oschner Clinic in New Orleans. He was instrumental in starting the Ear, Nose & Throat department at the University Medical Center. Dr. Hesdorffer started his practice in Jackson, MS in 1950 where he was committed to his patients for more than 50 years. He was the adoring son of Henrietta (Goodman) and Eugene Hesdorffer of Canton, Ms., the loving father to Debra (Paul) Solomon, Jay (Marietta) Hesdorffer, and the late Abby (Diann) Hesdorffer, David Hesdorffer and Mark Hesdorffer; devoted brother to the late Alice (Ira) Mackevich and Albert (Pearl) Hesdorffer; proud grandfather of Heather (Campo) Haley and Mollye Hesdorffer, David and Melanie Hesdorffer; proud great-grandfather of Mia.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Sulser, Dr. David Mulholland, Dr. Marcelo Ruvinsky and the nursing staff on 2 East at St. Dominic's Hospital for their excellent care. The family also wishes to thank Warteen Griffin, Zelma Gray, Julie Green and Lawanda Lacey who were devoted to his care.

His bright mind, gracious manner and good counsel will be missed by all.

Visitation is at 2:00 pm Sunday March 27, 2011 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street. Graveside services at Beth Israel Cemetery, North State Street at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beth Israel Congregation.
