My mother remembers Uncle Jim coming to stay with the family of his niece (my grandmother) and wrapping his head up before he went to sleep.
My notes indicate his birth was "near Fayetteville" and death "near Dellrose," which was the town of his residence at the time of his death.
Uncle Jim was married to Ida Pearl McGee, daughter of Henry McGee and Rebecca Belle Orrick, and (following their divorce) to Robbie Mae Welch, daughter of Robert Erwin Welch and his first wife, Lula Compton.
Their great-granddaughter relates that Jim and Robbie lived apart for years but were "too stubborn to divorce."
He fought to have the remains of his son, John B. Milstead, brought home from Germany after John died during reconstruction work near the war's end. He was finally brought home in January 1949 and buried in Riverview.
Two days later, Uncle Jim died...but had gotten his last wish.
Jim and Pearl's children were Inda Bell Pamplin; John B.; Katherine McGehee; Flossie Mae Barr; Sadie Grace McAlister; and Ruth Barret.
His children with Robbie were George Elsie and Lula Jane (she died as a child).
