Russell H. Williams, 67, of 2408 Meadowwood Dr., retired downtown restaurant operator, died of a heart ailment Friday at his home.
With his late father, George R. Williams, and brother, Herbert C. Williams, Mr. Williams operated Williams Grill at 335 St. Clair St. from 1934 to 1951.
The restaurant, near Adams Street, which featured a huge U-shaped soda fountain and numerous booths, was a popular luncheon spot for downtown workers.
A native Toledoan, Mr. Williams was president of the first graduating class at Libbey High School in 1924. He got into the food business with his father and brother, who ran a restaurant and concessins at Tiedke's downtown store before starting their own grill.
From 1935 to 1963, Mr. Williams owned his own airplane and enjoyed flying. He retired in 1951.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Sylvania Country Club.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian; sons John R. and David L., and daughter, Mrs. Judith Basinger.
