OBITUARY :
RICHARD JESSE BACHTELL, 89, a guest of Quincy (Pa.) United Methodist Home for the past week, and of 319 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, April 8, 2006, in the nursing home.
Born April 8, 1917, in Greensburg, Md., he was the son of the late Jesse A. and Clara Bell Martin Bachtell.
His wife, I. M. Ruth Karn Bachtell, died Dec. 9, 2000. They were married July 25, 1942.
He was a graduate of Smithsburg High School, with the class of 1935.
He was employed at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for 42 years. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, where he served as an usher, and was a former member of the Lutheran Church of Greensburg.
He was a member of Teamsters Local Union, Waynesboro.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy J. Watson of Waynesboro, and Janet E. Shank of Hagerstown; one son, Ronald W. Bachtell of Burton, Mich.; one sister, Mary Jane Barkdoll of Smithsburg; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; his dear friend, Helen Cobb of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis E. Bachtell; one sister, Margaret E. Leather; one brother, Guy M. Bachtell; and one granddaughter.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
