Lelan J Benefiel died Tuesday afternoon in Medi-Lodge Nursing Home @ Cherry ville..he had been in failing health since suffering a heart attack several years ago. He served in World War I with Co. A, 139th Inf., 35th Division in France, and fought on three fronts. During WW II he worked in the identification department of the Kansas Ordnance Plant at Parsons.
He owned and operated the Benefiel Studio on Walnut Street from 1926 to 1941. He was state refinery agent, first at Augusta, KS and later at Coffeyville from 1948 to 1957. He owrked as inspector with the dengineering dept. from 1957 until his retirement. He was a member of VFW American Leg., Vet WW I, etc. Belonged to seveal Msonic bodies.
'Who's Who' pg 138 gave Lelan as Charter member of the American Legion Post #20, worked for Carey Fruit Co; member of First Christian Church.
Son of Frank and Lula Hillis Benefiel, married July 17, 1929 to Vera Ooton.
