DAVENPORT -- Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas E. Blumer, Sr., a resident of Davenport and formerly a twenty-eight year resident of LeClaire, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2618 Boies Ave., Davenport. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Long Grove, Iowa, with military graveside rites conducted by the Bettendorf V.F.W. Post 9128 of which he was a member. Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. You are invited to join the family today at 7:00 p.m. for a family led rosary. Tom died peacefully with his family at his side on Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport, following a courageous battle and lengthy illness. Thomas Eugene Blumer was born February 7, 1932, in Davenport, a son of Oswald S. and Cecilia (Micklewright) Blumer. He was united in marriage to Marian C. Atkinson on June 14, 1952, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2002. Tom was proud to have served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart as a result of combat injuries he received on Pork Chop Hill. He retired in 1994 from the Rock Island Arsenal where he served as a Procurement Analyst. His memberships include the Disabled American Veterans; Bettendorf V.F.W.; Knights of Columbus; and the Davenport Moose. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation. Survivors include his loving children, Dan Blumer, Blue Grass, Iowa; Theresa (Barry) Parris, Christine Blumer and Jacque Blumer, all of Davenport; and Jeanne Farr, Orange Park, Florida; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (Al) Lee, Davenport, and Patricia MacBeth, Bettendorf; and brothers, Allen Blumer, Wayne (Dorothy) Blumer, and Dean (Sharon) Blumer, all of Davenport. Special thanks to Dick and Janice DaBillo who were very dear neighbors and friendly care givers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; sons, David Blumer 1994; Thomas E. Blumer, Jr. 1996; a daughter, Kathy Blumer, 2004; and sisters, June and Janet; and a brother, Dale. May they rest in peace.
