Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Aug 20 2009 - Velma Mary Byrum, 90, Leesville, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at the Windsor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Windsor. Velma was born on June 5, 1919, in Racket, the daughter of Jud and Mabel (Cochran) Summers. She was married to Herbert Weeks Byrum on September 23, 1938, in Gunnison, Colorado. Velma made a wonderful friend in May Wiskur in the twilight of her life. The family will be forever grateful for her kindness. Velma was a Christian. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Leesville. She is survived by one son, Herbert Byrum and his wife, Angelia, Tightwad; six daughters, Veryl Willis and her husband, John, Leesville, LaRea Williams of Leesville, Myrna Preston and her husband, Jerry, Lee's Summit, Phyllis Ebeling and her husband, Harold, Windsor, Vickie Schley and her husband, Michael, Leesville, Mary Love and her husband, Russell, Harrisonville; four sisters, LaVerne McLerran, Clinton, Arkansas, Perrie Lee Benson, Camdenton, Clarice North and her husband, Charles, Windsor, Jane Huey and her husband, Earl, Clinton; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; one son-in-law, Jim Williams, and three infant children.
