TICONDEROGA SENTINEL, Thur, 10 Feb 1910, (Photo included), "...Prominent Ticonderoga Veteran and Business Man Buried
Tuesday. The people of Ticonderoga were sorely grieved
Sunday to learn that during the preceding night one of its
best known citizens had passed away."
"Alexander H. Weed was born in March 1844, in the house in
which he lived at the time of his death, being one of six
children born to Joseph and Mary Hay Weed. Two of these
children, Mrs. Richard Arthur and Postmaster Albert Weed,
both of this village survive. In the fall of 1861, shortly after
the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted in Company G,
96th New York Volunteer Infantry, being detailed as drummer
in the band. Mustered out after one year of service he
returned to Ticonderoga and became a clerk in his brother
Frederick's drug store...."
"In June 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna
Wicks, who died in July, 1908. Mr. Weed was a member
of...Post Alfred Weed, G.A.R (named after his brother,
Captain Weed)...."
"The funeral services were held at his late home at two
o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. S.D. VanLoan, pastor
of the Church of the Cross officiating.... Burial was in
Mt. Hope cemetery, his remains being lowered to their last
resting place by six men who had been his warmest
friends, Messrs. C.A. Stevens, J.A. Davis, W.J. Smith,
E.C.D. Wiley, Cass B. Pease and Thomas F. Cunningham."
