Anna was a chambermaid who came to the US about 2 years before her death. On the evening of October 7, Anna was at a Hungarian dance hall/saloon called Nowak's on St. Clair. At about 10:30 she left alone to walk home.
She was attacked by an unknown assailant as she passed "Payne's Pastures," a field north of Superior between Handy St. (E. 19th) and North Perry St.(E. 21st). Her body was found there the next day.
