Alice was walking home from a basketball game down SOM Center Rd. on a snowy evening when she was struck and killed by a car. The driver did not report the accident, so she remained missing until April.
When the driver was found, he could not be punished as it was then legal to not report an accident. The Cleveland Automobile Club lobbied successfully to have the law changed.
