AZLE - Jim Bob Nation, 77, an insurance company owner, died Monday at home.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. today at Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle. Burial: Ash Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Nation was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Azle.

He was the owner of Jim Bob Nation Insurance Co. in Azle with his wife, Beryle, for 40 years. He was a weather spotter for KXAS-TV Channel 5; a member of the Azle Lions Club, the Optimist Club and was a lifelong member of Ash Creek Baptist Church.

He was a football announcer for Azle schools for 41 years. He received his Associates Degree of Arts from Compton Junior College. In 1940, he was signed by the New York Yankees to a contract and played three seasons in the minor leagues. He served in the Army Air Forces and was medically discharged.

He was the kind of man every little boy wants to be when he grows up and the kind of man every old man wishes he had been.

Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Beryl Nation of Azle; son, Charles Nation of Southlake; daughter, Norma Nation Tucker of Azle and Nancy Nation Jay of Austin; sister, Louise Wood of Arlington; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
