Actor. Born John Forest Knight, he joined a traveling minstrel show as a musician at age 15. While attending the University of West Virginia, he supported himself as the drummer in his own band and also was the composer of the West Virginia University, "WVU Fight Song". Because of his musicianship, he left school, started playing on the cabaret circuits and appeared in Earl Carroll's Vanities on Broadway in 1927. He was appearing with Mae West in vaudeville stage musicals when he broke into films. He appeared with her in "She Done Him Wrong" (1933). His comic style had given him the nickname 'Fuzzy' and over the next thirty years, he appeared in nearly 200 films. He was in scores of Western films and was listed among the Top Ten Money-Making Western Stars of the 1940s. His credits include "Moulin Rouge" (1934), "The Cat's Paw" (1934), "The Oregon Trail" (1939), "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie" (1941) and "Wanted: Dead or Alive" (1951). For television, he was a regular on "The Gene Autry Show", Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok", "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legend", "Lawman" and "The Joey Bishop Show". After he retired in early 1960s, he continued to make occasional appearances. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
