He married Mary M. Ludden Feb. 16, 1944, in Bloomington. She preceded him in death May 10, 1989. He married Orena Probus Stewart on April 22, 1994. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sandra (Jim) Sizemore; three stepsons, Ronald (Linda) Stewart, Jeff (Angie) Stewart and Terry (Diane)Stewart; one brother, John (Ernestine) Jeankins; two grandsons, Kevin (Lori) Singletary and David Singletary; six grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Ronald Singletary and a stepdaughter, Betty Stewart-Evans.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
