Leocadiť Neveu was born on July 15, 1851 in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Quebec to parents Maxime Neveu, son of Joseph Neveu and Marie-Anne Barette, and Scholastique Lauzon, daughter of Andre Lauzon and Justine Guernon. Her family came to the United States and settled in Bay City in in the early or mid 1860s. On January 10, 1867 she married Joseph Gerard (Girard). She had twelve children. On July 23, 1940 she died. Her obituary states that she was ninety years old, however she was actually eighty-nine. Her obituary reads thus:

Mrs. Mary Gerard Dies at Age of 90
Mrs. Mary Leocadia Gerard, 90, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Bressette, 715 North Catherine Street after a five months' illness.
She was born June 15, 1850 in Canada and in 1865 she married the late Joseph Gerard. She was a member of St. Anne's society of Visitation church and one of the pioneer members of St. Joseph's church when it was still situated on Washington avenue.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Andrew Gougeon, of Wyandotte, Sister Mary Crescentia, of Ohio, Mrs. Edmund Defrain and Mrs. Bressette, of Bay City, and Mrs. Owen P. Dulude, also of Bay City, whom she reared. Also surviving is one brother, Leander Neveau, of Reese, 59 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the Bressette home and at 9 o'clock at Visitation Church. The Rev. Fr. George Dequoy will officiate at the requiem high mass and burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
