POWNAL -- Gladys M. Jelley-Hall, 90, a longtime resident of North Pownal, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at her residence following a long illness.

Born in Springfield, Mass., July 10, 1917, she re-ceived her education in the Rockville, Connecticut schools.

Gladys married James Jelley Sr. in 1939 in Springfield, Mass. She later married Harrison Hall in North Adams, Mass., in 1962. Mr. Hall died in 1988.

In 1956 Gladys founded the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Adams, which she operated until her retirement in 1986.

In earlier years Gladys and Harrison owned and raced thoroughbred horses at the former Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal. Gladys enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Orwell, gardening, knitting and crocheting. Most of all her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and her Yorkshire terrier, Cody, her constant companion.

The family would like to especially thank Gladys' care-givers for the many hours of loving care that they provided to Gladys.

Gladys was predeceased by a son-in-law, Chuck Ely.

The funeral will be held from the North Pownal Congregational Church on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Rogers, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m., when the family will be in attendance.
