Born in Wisconsin, son of Joseph W. Blanding (1819-1901) and Maria Coulter (1829-1889).

Married Ida Kimble Bacon (1855-1928) on October 24, 1881 in Minnesota. She was widow of Edwin Harlan Bacon (1847-1877) and mother of Jessie.

Land comissioner and judge. Participated in 1889 land rush in Oklahoma Territory; lived in Kingfisher and Enid. One of the founding settlers of Lawton in 1901.

Some records give year of birth as 1852 or 1853.

Died in Honolulu, Hawaii, in June 1921
