Kin of 1st White Child to Be Buried Tomorrow

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Amanda Jackson Seager, 95, granddaughter of the first white child born within the boundaries of Syracuse, will be held tomorrow at 11 A.M. at the Kompf Funeral Parlors, 203 Fitch Street.

The Rev. William Montgomery will officiate at the service for the descendant of Albion Jackson, pioneer citizen. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.

Mrs. Seager, who resided in 1032 S. Townsend St. for the last 72 years, died Wednesday night in Onondaga General Hospital. She had been in failing health for several years.

Many of her approximately 100 descendants participated in the Centennial Observance of Syracuse in August, but she was unable to attend the Centorama to see history she knew by memory unfolded in pageant form.

Historians say Albion Jackson was born in 1800 in a small log cabin on the present site of the Yates Hotel. His son, John, born in 1827 moved to Nedrow. There Mrs. Seager grew up, attending East Hill School and the Onondaga Valley Academy. She moved to the S. Townsend St. residence after she and Peter Seager, a carpenter, were married.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. George Kraft, of Rochester, Mrs. Charles Bell, 167 Minerva St., Mrs. Floyd Bassett, 1024 S. Townsend St. and Mrs. Walter Casolare, 1823 LeMoyne Av.; one sister, Mrs. Thomas Ruston of Lafayette, one brother, Winfield Jackson; and a son, Frederick Seager, 1032 S. Townsend St.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
