Her first husband was Francis Thomas Collins. They had seven children--all girls.

In 1910 she and her second husband and her youngest daughter from her first marriage lived on a farm they were renting in Caneyville Township, Chautauqua County, KS.

In 1920 she and her husband and her father lived on a farm they were renting in Howard Township, Elk County, KS.

In 1930 she and James lived in a house they were renting for ten dollars a month on Cedar Street in Howard, KS. They did not have a radio. He worked as a day laborer, doing odd jobs.
