Daughter of John and Rachel (Mathias) Fox.

Tyrone Herald, Thursday, 6 June 1895:

"Miss Sarah Fox died at the home of M.L. Fleck in Sinking Valley at fifteen minutes before nine last Monday evening. Having been ailing for the past two or three years, deceased was stricken with paralysis on Saturday evening last, from which she did not rally. She was aged 76 years, 1 month and 26 days.

The oldest of a large family of twelve children, deceased was about ten years old when her parents, who had lived in the southern part of Blair county (then Bedford), located at Tyrone Forges in the year 1829, and in 1855 they removed to Sinking Valley where the family has ever since resided on what is known as the Fox farm, which has been operated by Reuben Fox, assisted by his sisters, for many years.

John Fox, father of the deceased, died in the valley on the 4th of July thirty-five years ago. Her mother, Mrs. Rachel Fox, died at the same place four years ago in January last. John Fox, brother of the deceased, who conducted the blacksmith business where the public building now stands in the early days of Tyrone, died at Altoona five years ago. Her sister Ellen, wife of John Cryder, died at her home in Sinking Valley, six years ago. A sister Rebecca, wife of Claude Bailey, died twelve years ago. Four of the family died in infancy many years ago. Surviving are one brother and four sisters, namely: Mrs. Matilda Burley, relict of the late C.R. Burley, of Tyrone; Miss May and Reuben Fox, who reside at the old homestead in the valley, and Mrs. Margaret, wife of M.L. Fleck in Sinking Valley.

Deceased was a consistent member of the English Lutheran church. She was kind hearted, of unassuming disposition, and filled well the responsible place she occupied in the family. Funeral occurred Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Services were conducted at the home of M.L. Fleck, and the interment was at the Lutheran cemetery in Sinking Valley."
