Ann (Crowley) Kireilis, age 91, of Brockton died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital after a tragic accident. She was the wife of the late Arthur Kireilis. Ann was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Daniel and Nora (ODonoghue) Crowley and remained a lifelong resident of the city. A 1937 graduate of Brockton High School, she was also a graduate of Burdette College. Ann was a stay at home mother devoted to her home and family. She was a member of the Brockton Senior Center and enjoyed line dancing, gardening, reading, and trips to the beach. Ann was the loving mother of Ann Kuliesis and her husband, Thomas, Paul A. Kireilis and his wife Jeanne Holmes, and Eileen Dickinson and her husband, Chris. Cherished grandmother and great grandmother. She was the sister of the late Robert, Helen, and Daniel Crowley and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A car was hit Thursday by a Boston-bound commuter train at a crossing in Avon. The driver, Ann Kireilis, 91, of Brockton was taken to Brockton Hospital after the accident at the East High Street crossing at about 11:45 a.m. Thursday. Investigators checking the crossing's warning system found it was activated 39 seconds before the train arrived at the crossing. The warning gates were in the down position when the accident took place. The engineer applied the emergency brake when he saw the car, but was unable to stop before hitting it.
