Her father, Dr. William Lash built a spectacular three-story, 18-room Victorian mansion topped with a bell-shaped turret and complete with a wine cellar, recreation room, summerhouse, eight to 10 chimneys and water fountain.
He named the plantation "Walnut Cove" for the thick groves of walnut trees along the Town Fork a few hundred yards from the main house.
Walnut Cove, N.C. was once called Lash Town.
