He was a versatile infielder playing shortstop and third base, making his debut with the St. Louis Browns on September 13, 1941. For 15 seasons, he played with the St. Louis Browns (1941-1947), Boston Red Sox (1948-52), Chicago White Sox in 1953 and Baltimore Orioles (1954-55). He shortstop in two All-Star games (1943-44) and ended his career with 1859 hits, 1001 runs scored, 247 homeruns, 1174 runs batted in and a .286 batting average.
