United States Air Force General. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1948. He flew combat missions in both the Korean and Vietnamese wars. From 1973 until 1976 he was the Chief of Staff for the Strategic Air Command. From 1979 until his retirement in 1983, he was the commander of the Military Airlift Command. He was the superintendent of the United States Air Force Academy in the late 1970s.
