Sonora M. Broussard, 85, long time Bridge City resident, passed away on March 13, 2011 at home with her loving family by her side.

Sonora was born in Port Arthur, Texas on April 15, 1925 at St. Mary Hospital to Katherine Sophia and Albert L. Prejean, Sr. She graduated from Stark High School and married her long-time high school sweetheart Lunny A. (Pat) Broussard, Jr. on June 25, 1944.

She was a homemaker, expert seamstress, and loved cooking, helping to keep the Cajun culture alive. She was an animal advocate. She was a strong-willed, loving, wonderful person who tirelessly cared for her family and everyone who knew her. Sonora was a beloved grandmother who was very influential in the lives of her grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. She was a long time member of St. Henry Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie A. Broussard of Bridge City; daughter, Janice K. Browning and husband, Verlon Browning of Bridge City; grand- daughter, Krystal Broussard of Dayton, who she helped raise; grandsons, Dr. Christopher G. Browning and wife Lisa of Beaumont, Matthew D. Browning and wife Amanda of Bridge City, Chad Broussard, Michael Broussard; great-grandsons, Grant and Ian Browning of Beaumont; sister-in -law, Doris Prejean of Florida; and many beloved nieces and nephews and close family friends.

Sonora was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Sophia and Albert L. Prejean, Sr.; husband, Lunny A. (Pat) Broussard, Jr.; son, Glenn D. Broussard; sisters, Lily Mae Hartman and Audrey Nezat; and brothers, Eckard Prejean, Nolen Prejean, and Albert Prejean, Jr.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to Uncle Jerald Herrin, Dr. Chad Hammett, Dr. Kimberly Pitts, Dr. Mel Amin, Dr. Scott McKinney and the staff of Odyssey Hospice whose selfless acts of kindness during this difficult time, brought us peace and serenity and lit the path ahead of us.

Visitation will be held at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Bridge City.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Chris Browning, Matt Browning, Lane Wagner, Doyle Morse, Luke Herrin, and Steve Browning.
