John and Belinda (Keenan) Lincoln were natives of Somerset, Ohio. They were married in the county courthouse of Muskingum County, in Zanesville, Ohio, on March 21, 1850. They came to Iowa by covered wagon in 1879 from Illinois after travelling to Crawford Illinois with his Mother from Zanesville. The family lost their wagon, its contents, and the team of horses while fording the Mississippi. The family settled near the Chestnut Ford bridge area in Boone County, Iowa. They were the parents of eight children: Thomas L., Alvida, Sarah, Alva (born in Ohio), William, John, Kathryn, and Arminta (born in Illinois).
John died in 1880, not long after the family arrived in Iowa, and is buried in the U.B. Cemetery, south of Madrid, Iowa.
