George Howe Allemong, 87, retired veteran clerk of the Morgan County Circuit Court, former school teacher and active in Morgan County church and civic affairs, died Saturday morning, August 1 in War Memorial Hospital here, where he was admited Friday following an illness since January.

He served as court clerk here for 32 year and for 34 years previously he taught in public schools of the county. He retired as clerk in 1957.

An active Republican, he was serving his sixth term at the time of his retirement.

He began his teaching career in his home Rock Gap district in 1892 and 26 years later taught at the Great Cacapon school until retiring from teaching with a lifetime teacher's certificate in 1926.

A native of the Rock Gap section, he was born on May 18, 1872, a son of the late John W. and Mary Lynch Allemong.

His wife, Mrs. Mary Ambrose Allemong, died in 1842.

He had also operated a farm in Rock Gap district but since the death of his wife he had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Harry W. Bishop here.

An ardent sportsman, he played shortstop on the old Rock Gap baseball team, a locally-famous rural team of some years ago, and in recent years he was an active fan of all classes of baseball. He also liked to hunt and was noted for his skill in pitching horseshoes.

He was an active member, Sunday School teacher and former treasurer of First E.U.B. Church, a member of the George P. Hott Bible Class, Fr. O. U. A. M. and P. O. S. of A. of Unger.

Surviving are: two daughters - Mrs. Ruth Bishop and Mrs. Beulah G. Michael, Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The body was removed from the Parks Funeral Home to the home of Mrs. Bishop on Sunday.

Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First E.U.B. Church here with the Rev. Paul J. Slonaker, pastor, and the Rev. Earl C. Day, of Stauton Va., and the Rev. H. H. Rowland, officiating.

Burial was in Greenway Cemetery, where members of the Junior Order, where members of the Junior Order held graveside services.
